ImageNow

The Perceptive Vision, Inc.

ImageNow (TM) adds imaging capabilities to existing applications. It wascreated specifically to streamline and simplify the process ofintergrating imaging functionality to an existing application, withoutreprogramming or retraining. ImageNow PC Client operates in MS-Windows and works concurrently with the host application. The applicationis visible alongside ImageNow in the Windows environment. Imagenowmonitors and captures data displayed in the application windoww, andthereby integrates without touching a line of code. Together, they form aclosely-knit and hightly efficient imaging system. Core Functionality* ImageNow defines templates against applications, using its LearnMode. * ImageNow scans and indexes images against record in anapplication. * ImageNow stores images and indexes in its own OSM datastructure. * ImageNow retrieves and displays images on networkclients. The Learn Mode When a new application or applicationscreen is to be registered, the system administrator invokes the LearnMode. Here, ImageNow is taught how to recognize the various applicationscreens. Templates are created for each application screen which identifywhich data to copy and use as indexing values. These indexing values, orkeys, are used to index and store the newly scanned images in the imagedatabase. When initially installed, ImageNow must "learn" the variousapplication screens. The system administrator "teaches" ImageNow whichscreens to image-enable by creating templates in the Learn mode. Inoperation, when a new image is scanned, ImageNow looks at the currentapplication screen and finds the corresponding template. ImageNow wouldknow, from the template, which information to copy and use as storagevalues for the image. The new image would then be stored using that data.later, when a display is called, ImageNow knows which image to retrieve. It looks at the current application screen, copies the relevant data, andfinds the corresponding image in the image database. CompatibleAppliactions * ImageNow can image-enable character-cell basedapplication running on the host or accessible by the host. In thiscase, the applications must be running on Telnet Terminal Emulatorsor any 3rd party termiinal emulator. ImageNow uses Microsoft interfacesockets. * Window applications can be image-enabled * DOSapplications can be image-enabled. After starting and logging intoImageNow, the ImageNow Main window appears. Here, a list box is availablecontaining all applications currently registered with ImageNow. The userselects the application currently in use. Once selected, image storageand retrieval functions may begin. SCAN Basic scan and displayfunctions are initiated through a simple control window. When a scan iscalled, a paper document is digitized and displayed in the ImageNow Imagewindow. Also. the indexing keys are copied from the appliation screen, and displayed for the user. The user may then decide whether to store, rescan, or discard the new image. Scan Functionality * Compatiblescanners: -HP scanners using HP controller -Scanners supportedby Dunord controllers -Scanners supported by Xionics controllers *Scanner attributes may be set at or before time of scan. * 3 modes ofscan: 1. Local: The application recorded is linked to the image atthe time of scan. 2. Batch, Local: The batch is scanned and linkedagainst the application at a later time. 3. Network Scan: The batchis scanned and immediatedly checked for quality. If committed, the batch is loaded to the network and made available to the users whocan select the images individually for linking to theapplication records. * Resequence scanned pages Batch Scan BatchScan functions are supported with ImageNow. The user loads a batch ofdocuments into a scanner equipped with a document feeder and initiatesthe Batch Scan. The documents are scanned automatically and temporarilystored, pending final indexing and storage. The un-indexed batch may alsobe sent to the server, to be indexed by another user at any time.Indexing is done by an authorized user on a page-by-page basis, where theuser views each page and decides whether to rescan, discard, or link theimage to the current appliation screen. DISPLAY * Displays arenormally against a live application record. Automatic indexing based onvisible application screens allow for one-button retrieval andstorage of images. * Cabinet Search option allows for hierarchicalaccess to the image database. -Display, Delete, and Move commandsare available. -Manual Key Cabinet Search option. * The Filterfeature provides multi-document retrieval. It is set in the LearnProcess. * Network faxing; * Network mail. * Network printing ofpage regions, whole pages, or whole documents The ImageNow ImageWindow supports standard image-display functions, including zoom, rotate, resize, print, and mutiple-window viewing options. The Image Windowappears whenever a scan or display function is called. IMAGE STORAGECABINET * Append pages to existing documents using Insert command.* Replace page in existing document. * Drag and drop images withinthe storage Cabinet and to a clipboard. * Store the image, retainingany rotate commands. * Store "post-it" notes (text) at the documentlevel. * Stick "post-it" notes at any index level. * Insert keyinformation inot TIFF header. * "Turbo" viewer for fast display ofbitonal images. * "Power" viewer for redlining and display ofadditional formats (AutoCAD, Word, WordPerfect, etc.). CabinetSearch When a direct search through the image database is required, users may activate the Cabinet Search option. the Cabinet Search allowsusers to browse through the image database, or image "cabinet."
